About the Festival
Serve the City is joining the Ukrainian Community of Queensland for Ukrainian Festival Brisbane 2026, a vibrant, free and family-friendly celebration marking 35 years of Ukraine’s independence.
Join us for live music and performances, traditional Ukrainian dance, authentic food and desserts, cultural displays and market stalls, while connecting with Brisbane’s Ukrainian community and celebrating the culture, resilience and identity of Ukraine.
The Festival marks Ukrainian Independence Day, observed on 24 August. This year’s anniversary holds particular significance as Ukraine continues to defend its freedom, culture and identity. Proceeds from the day will support the Ukrainian Community of Queensland’s ongoing humanitarian and advocacy work.

This is an opportunity to spend the day alongside the Ukrainian community, learn about and celebrate its culture, meet new people and stand in solidarity with Ukraine. Bring your friends and family, enjoy the celebrations and be part of a meaningful day for our city.
Types of Activities Available
There’s a wide range of ways to help across the day, including (spots are limited and filling fast!):
- General event help — setting up in the morning and packing down at the end of the day
- Stage decorating
- Food stalls – cooking (BBQ) and serving Ukrainian food throughout the day
- Merchandise stall – afternoon shift and packdown
- Car park attendant
- Bar service (inside and outside bar)
Shifts run in blocks between 7:30am and 5pm, so there’s flexibility to volunteer for just part of the day.
About the Ukrainian Community of Queensland
The Ukrainian Community of Queensland has represented and supported Queensland’s Ukrainian community since organised community life began in 1949. A not-for-profit and \registered charity, UCQ works to promote and preserve Ukrainian culture, heritage and traditions, and to pass them on to future generations – through cultural and social activities, language and dance groups, Ukrainian Radio Brisbane, and its community centre at Holland Park West.
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, UCQ has also become a key hub for humanitarian and advocacy work, supporting Ukrainians in Queensland and raising funds for humanitarian relief back home. The Ukrainian Festival Brisbane is one of UCQ’s biggest events of the year, sharing Ukrainian culture with the wider community while raising vital support for that ongoing work.
