Sport can bring people together. Kindness helps them connect.
The Peace Cup is one of Brisbane’s biggest community celebrations for the annual UN International Day of Peace bringing people from diverse cultures, universities, community groups and families together through sport, connection and shared action.
Organised by different local charities and partners such as our friends from the Rohingya Youth Network, the UNAAYP, Griffith University and Griffith Refugee Background Student Success Program, the day uses friendly football matches as a powerful way to build belonging, celebrate diversity and show what peace can look like in our city.
Serve the City is proud to be an integral part of the Peace Cup, coordinating the community program that runs alongside the games.
While players take to the field, our Serve the City team will bring the wider event to life with multicultural experiences, family-friendly activities, community games, Kindness Cards and our interactive Kindness Wall. Because we believe that peace starts with kindness, Serve the City will create opportunities throughout the day for people to share messages of encouragement, connect with someone new and take simple actions that make others feel seen, welcomed and included.
There will be plenty to do for spectators, children, families and anyone who wants to be part of the day—whether or not they play sport, so make sure you bring your entire family along!
The Peace Cup will also celebrate the many cultures that make Brisbane what it is. Enjoy multicultural food, cultural performances and community-led experiences that invite people to share traditions, stories and time together. It is a chance to connect across cultures, learn from one another and celebrate the diversity that makes our community stronger.
Come help create community!
There will be many ways for Serve the City to create the fun atmosphere around the games, such as:
- Creating banners, flags and cheering materials to support teams playing for unity and peace
- Supporting multicultural activity stations, cultural performances and food experiences
- Running family-friendly games and activities for children and spectators
- Inviting attendees to write Kindness Cards for someone new, a teammate or a member of the community
- Bringing the Kindness Wall to life with messages of hope, peace and connection
- Hosting simple “meet someone new” activities that help people connect across cultures and communities
- Helping create a vibrant, inclusive community space where everyone can take part—not just players
Bring a plate. Share your culture.
We encourage everyone joining the day to bring a plate to share—whether it is a family favourite, a traditional dish or simply something that represents your culture. Food is one of the easiest ways to start a conversation, share a story and make someone feel welcome. Bring what you love, enjoy what others bring, and help create a table that reflects the many cultures of Brisbane.
