🎬 Bringing Community Together – Ukrainian Film Festival 2026

701 Brunswick St, New Farm, Brisbane, QLD 4005

Come be part of a beautiful community moment in Brisbane — bringing people together through stories, culture, conversation, and connection.

At Serve the City, we believe stronger communities are built when people from different backgrounds have opportunities to meet, connect, and genuinely share space together. Across Brisbane, we work alongside multicultural communities, grassroots organisations, and local partners to help create moments of belonging, understanding, and social connection — because community is built through human relationships.

Serve the City Brisbane is joining forces with the Ukrainian Community of Queensland in a moment of community at the Ukrainian Film Festival  — helping create a welcoming and inclusive space where the wider Brisbane community can come together alongside the Ukrainian community to listen, learn and connect.

This community event is a chance for people from different backgrounds, cultures, and generations to gather together, share experiences, and build understanding through the power of storytelling.

As volunteers, we’ll connect with the Ukrainian community to help create the warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes these community events so special — greeting guests, helping people feel comfortable and included, supporting the flow of the event, and simply being part of the human connection that happens when communities come together.

More about the event

The Festival features contemporary Ukrainian films that reflect resilience, identity, courage, family, and hope — sharing the voices and lived experiences of people navigating extraordinary circumstances. Some of the filmmakers behind these stories are also currently serving on the frontline in Ukraine.

Officially endorsed by the Embassy of Ukraine in Australia, the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO), and the Ukrainian State Film Agency, the festival presents seven carefully curated films across five days at New Farm Cinimas in New Farm.

This community event is an opportunity for people from different cultures, generations, and lived experiences to gather together, share stories, and foster greater understanding through the power of storytelling and the arts. In times where many communities experience isolation, displacement, or disconnection, spaces like these help strengthen social cohesion and remind us of the importance of coming together.

At Serve the City, we believe small moments of community matter. Sometimes volunteering simply means showing up, welcoming others, creating conversation, and helping people feel that they belong. ✨

💙💛What You’ll Be Doing

As a Serve the City volunteer at the Ukrainian Film Festival, you’ll play a warm and welcoming role at one or more screenings:

  • Warmly welcome guests as they arrive at the cinema — helping set the tone for a meaningful experience.
  • Thank attendees at the conclusion of each screening — a simple but important way to show appreciation.
  • Distribute flyers containing the post-screening feedback questionnaire — helping the organisers learn from every audience.
  • Help foster connection and shared community space throughout the event — creating opportunities for people from different backgrounds to come together through culture, conversation, and storytelling.

No prior experience is needed — just a friendly presence and a willingness to be part of something special for our multicultural community. You’re welcome to volunteer at one screening or several, depending on your availability.
