Community Park Clean-Up – for greener parks and cleaner streets! (Gold Coast)

As part of our upcoming community event on SATURDAY 30 May, Serve the City Australia is coordinating a local Park Cleanup initiative. Alongside our efforts at the Labrador Community Centre, we are coming together to care for our local green spaces and protect our natural environment.

This initiative offers a practical, low-barrier way for residents to make a meaningful impact right where they live. Whether you have thirty minutes or two hours to spare, your help in restoring and maintaining our parks ensures they remain safe, clean, and vibrant spaces for everyone to enjoy.

Why?

Caring for our environment is important — but doing it together as a community is what makes it powerful.

Australia has a plastics problem. Australia now produces 2.5 million tonnes of plastic waste each year, equating to 100 kg per person. Of this, only 13% of plastic is recovered and 84% is sent to landfill. More concerningly, around 130,000 tonnes of the plastic we consume leaks into the marine environment each year. Joining our clean up is a great way to make a difference for our environment and doing it together with others makes it lots of fun. Who knows, you might even make a friend or two!

Do I need to bring anything?

You’ll receive a cleaning kit on the day so no need to bring anything (wear a hat and sunscreen). Oh hang on, perhaps some kids as they are seriously good at spotting AND cleaning up the environment!

You don’t need any experience to help out with this project. Just a few hours of your time and a bit of energy!
