People with mental health issues are often looking for new skills. Let’s help them build an edible garden so they can pick up gardening as a new skill! They can use the produce in their cooking classes: win-win! There are already a few keen gardeners-in-spe who can’t wait to start sowing, watering and of course weeding and harvesting. All we need to do is organise what’s there and help them get started! Once the gardens are in full swing, members can participate in garden programs that build resilience and resourcefulness!

Things you’ll do on the day

There is a current space with some plants growing but this project needs some hands-on work. You’ll be filling up boxes with soil, re-organising what’s there, planting and watering and if possible, we’ll put up a shade cloth. There are strategic plans in place, it just needs some tough love, a bit of hard work and a whole heap of team spirit.

You don’t need any experience to help out with this project. Just a good mood, some muscle and a bit of energy!
Note: this is an outdoor project and volunteers should be mindful of the weather conditions in summer. Bring plenty of water and use appropriate sun protection.
