Be part of this unique event celebrating Brisbane’s diverse cultures and communities💛
Serve the City Brisbane is walking in this year’s LUMINOUS Lantern Parade in Southbank Parklands, run by Multicultural Australia to kick off Queensland Multicultural Month! Together, we will carry lanterns through South Bank alongside thousands of people, celebrating the cultures and community connections that make our city what it is.
As a community and team that serves with and alongside multicultural communities, this walk matters to us. Through projects such as the Skills for Change program at the Romero Center, collaborations with St James College and many multicultural community initiatives, we work to create spaces where people from diverse backgrounds – including people seeking safety – can connect, contribute and feel they belong. We will be walking in solidarity with refugees and multicultural communities, because welcoming communities are built when we show up for one another.
And what about the Lanterns? Before the parade, our hand-made lanterns will be made together with people from refugee and multicultural communities connected to the projects we serve. Each lantern will carry more than light – it will reflect the stories, hopes and heritage of the people we serve alongside, and a shared message: every person deserves to feel welcomed, seen and part of the community around them.
Join our team as we carry lanterns through South Bank, celebrating culture, stories, and community connection.
No experience needed, and no long-term commitment – this is also the easiest way in if you’ve been following Serve the City but haven’t joined a project yet!
Come walk with us, meet the team, and be part of one of Brisbane’s most vibrant nights of the year.
Meeting point and logistical details to be confirmed closer to the date – simply sign up below and we’ll follow up with everything you need to know.
About Multicultural Australia
Multicultural Australia is Queensland’s leading humanitarian settlement provider, welcoming refugees, people seeking asylum, international students, and other new arrivals since 1998. Each year they support more than 5,000 newly arrived Queenslanders to settle in, build community connections, find work and study opportunities, and feel at home – all in service of their mission to create welcome and build communities where everyone belongs.
The LUMINOUS Lantern Parade is one of the ways they bring that mission to life, inviting all of Brisbane to celebrate culture and connection together.
