We are coming together to support Hope in a Suitcase Australia, a non-profit dedicated to providing every child entering the foster care system with a suitcase of their very own—filled with brand-new essentials and a message that they are valued.
Why Your Support Matters
Entering out-of-home care is a traumatic and sudden transition. Far too often, children are forced to move their few precious belongings in a plastic rubbish bag. This lacks dignity and adds to the trauma of an already difficult day.
According to the latest Child Protection Australia 2023–24 report by the AIHW:

44,900 children were in out-of-home care across Australia as of June 2024.

In the last year alone, there were 10,100 new admissions to care and protection orders.

A child is admitted to care approximately every 52 minutes in Australia.
We want to replace those plastic bags with hope. A brand-new suitcase and fresh belongings show these children that their community cares for them and that they deserve to have things that are theirs alone.
What We Are Collecting
To ensure these children feel special and safe, all items must be BRAND NEW. The suitcase itself should be a carry-on size, hard-case with wheels (as they are the most durable and easy for children to manage).
The Essentials Checklist:

Suitcases: Carry-on size, hard-shell with wheels.

Clothing: Pyjamas, underwear, socks, and singlets (all sizes from 000 to 18).

Toiletries: Toothbrushes, toothpaste, hairbrushes, hair ties, and roll-on deodorant (no aerosols).

Comfort & Joy: Small plush toys, blankets, wraps, and age-appropriate storybooks.

Education & Play: Coloring books, pencils, journals, pens, and craft kits.

Baby Care: Nappies, wipes, bottles, and dummies.

To ensure we can receive and manage all donations adequately, registration of your donation is required with the form below. This helps us track what items are coming in so we can meet the specific needs of local agencies.
